This is a paid full-time, 18-month fellowship that begins in early September. Benefits are included, as well as placement assistance at the end of the term. The position is based at KCRW in Santa Monica, although the fellow will be expected to work from home approximately half the time.
JOURNALISM – Fellows will contribute to KCRW’s news coverage and show production from day one. They will pitch segment ideas, conduct pre-interviews, and learn how to expertly prep a host for exceptional storytelling in a talk show format. They will also research, report, edit and produce original stories for radio, digital and social. They will report to the Managing Editor and take part in weekly editorial meetings. Fellows will receive hands-on training in every aspect of public radio journalism, both on-air and online, including writing, reporting, producing and editing.
CULTURE – KCRW fellows will have opportunities to work with producers of arts and culture programs that cover film, books, food, design and music. Through this, they’ll have access to the vast cultural resources of Southern California.
COMMUNITY – Fellows will work in the diverse communities of Southern California to find stories. They’ll spend time in the field and will be expected to build relationships with sources in communities around the region.
